Feed the Need Program Hits Major Milestone

Since 2009, Lifetouch Church Directories and Portraits, in partnership with churches throughout the United States and Canada, has been helping families facing financial challenges put meals on the table through its Feed the Need program. In January 2015, the program hit a major milestone - providing the value of three million meals. (Based on the reported value of 4 meals purchased by selected local food banks in the United States.)

This help is needed. According to the Economic Research Service of the USDA, in 2011, 14.9 percent of Americans were considered food insecure - meaning that at some time during the year, they were unable to put adequate food on the table.

Giving Back

The idea for Feed the Need began when Lifetouch learned that some churches were hesitant to offer new directories or portrait sessions because many in their congregation were facing financial hardships. At the same time, food shelves throughout the nation were seeing an increase in people needing assistance. From these conversations, the Feed the Need program was created.

3 Million Meals

Millions of Stories

The Feed the Need program hit the three million meal mark while photographing members of Stonybrook Church, a United Methodist faith community in Gahanna, OH. According to Pastor Bob Thomas, he never thought that a directory would allow them a chance for community outreach. Both Lifetouch and Stonybrook Methodist Church share the value of serving communities in need and partnered together to donate food to the Gahanna community.

Through our Feed the Need program, the Pastor and his families were able fulfill their calling to reach out to the hungry and donate to Gahanna Residents in Need (GRIN), their local food pantry. "I believe that each ministry of the church has the potential for direct hands on service. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Lifetouch had figured out a way to make creating a church directory into a way to collect food." Pastor Bob Thomas, Stonybrook Methodist Church, Gahanna, OH.

We thank Pastor Bob Thomas and his families for their dedication to reach out to the hungry and their drive to make a difference in their community. Partner with Lifetouch to get a chance to support outreach in your community.
